treat du jour

that cold, cloudy
and already dark evening
spent in the warm lights of home
just begged for some
seasonal baking.

my dear friend susan's favorite:
pumpkin cookies
with orange glaze

2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 large egg
1 15-oz. can pumpkin
2 T. orange juice
1 t. grated orange peel
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

combine butter and sugars,
and beat until creamy.
add remaining ingredients,
beat until combined.
drop dough by rounded tablespoon
onto greased cookie sheets.
bake at 375 degrees for 12-14 min.
cool and frost.

orange glaze:
2 T. orange juice
1 T. grated orange peel
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar

combine in bowl until smooth,
drizzle over cookies.
